Recover Most Recent Backup?

I don't think I recovered my disk backup(s) correctly.

On October 1, I created a bootable CD using ATIH 2012. Then created a 'C' drive backup set to create a full version after every 5 differential versions. On October 9 and 12, I manually created differential backups by clicking on "Backup Now" beside the 'C System Backup' listed in the 'Backup and Recovery' tab. The disk's full and differential backups are saved to a 'My Backups' folder on an external 'F' drive.

Last night, computer crashed and BSD every restart. I insert bootable CD then choose 'recover'. To recover to the most recent backup version (October 12) do I need to first select and recover the October 1 full backup and then go back into ATIH and recover the October 12 differential file? Or just choose the Oct 12 version and then does Acronis automatically recover the initial full backup plus the Oct 12 differential?

I chose Oct 12 version and ATIH wouldn't accept it saying the backup is corrupt. I then must have chosen the October 9 version because most recent data files on my hard drive are dated October 9. I want to recover to October 12. Curiously, the Backup and Recovery tab lists C System Backup showing Version: 1 (last on 10/1/2011) but I know I made subsequent differential backups on Oct 9 and 12.

On the external F drive, I can see the three C_System_Backup files with 2011-10-01 (24.1 Gb); 2011-10-09 (2.4Gb); and 2011-10-12 (2.3 Gb) in the file names. However, when I go back into Acronis Recovery the only version shown in the dropdown list is Oct 1; not Oct 9 or 12. When I click on "Add to List" and browse to the Oct 12 differential backup, the dialogue says "The backup list already contains this backup".

So please advise how do I recover my hard drive'C' to the most recent backup date (i.e. Oct 12)? Thank you!

It is best that you boot from the Bootable Media CD and do the restore when booted from the CD.

After booting, choose the Recovery option and you must browse for backup to the folder which contains your backup files.

You should be able to see both their names and their sizes and their dates. Type type will also be displayed. You may have to enlarge the window to see it all.

If you want to restore the most recent backup, then choose the file with most recent date and time. As you describe, this should be a differential small size backup. As the differential is tied to a full, the restore will first restore the full backup and then automatically restore the changes listed in the differential backup. All this will be done in one selection of the single differential file.
