Recover on Windows XP with 500GB SATA Drive

Thread solved

Hello,
Please help, I am having issues recovering the Backup Image that I just created using a 500GB SATA Hard Drive.

I did an Image backup of the entire SATA HD (250GB). The 250GB SATA HDD is having issues so I am planning to replace it with bigger SATA HDD (500GB). I am successful with the backup of the image but I am having issues with recovering it. The Acronis 2013 doesn't recognize the HDD, it's not showing up in the option where to recover the image. I went looking in the BIOS, and the BIOS can recognized it, but Acronis doesn't. I tried using the Acronis 2016 but it is not working either, there is a warning about PAE Disabled.

Please help,
Thank you very much,

Ismael, is the new 500GB HDD already formatted, and if so how?

For your older Windows XP box, I would expect that this is a Legacy / MBR system, so it will need the new 500GB HDD to also be using MBR for the partition scheme, not using GPT.

What you should be able to do using the ATI 2013 boot media is to use the option to 'Add new disk' then select the 500GB HDD and format it using MBR as NTFS.

The image below comes from ATI 2017 but should look very similar to below in ATI 2013 for the rescue media as this has been unchanged over multiple versions.

Hello Steve,

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. It worked! Did the full image backup first of the original 250GB HDD, then removed it and installed the new 500GB HDD. Using the ATI 2013 I added a new disk and formatted as an MBR. Since the original one is in MBR Format. Recovery went well. Thank you very much again. I tried that to different machine too with Windows XP but has an HDD Adaptor (IDE to SATA). Since IDE is not available anymore and we only have SATA. It worked also on the set up.

Thank you very much,

Glad that the advice was successful Ismael, thank you for the feedback.
