Recovering disks and partitions

Thread needs solution

Windows 7 has been acting up lately on my computer and, assuming it’s corrupted, I plan to recover the system from the Acronis backup. However, the system and partition backup was created about a year ago and is periodically updated. Isn’t it likely that the OS on the backup is also now corrupted due to the updates? If that’s the case I guess I should do a clean install.

It's likely your backup is corrupted. Things to try in this order before doing a clean install:

1) Download and run malwarebytes.
2) Download and run combofix. You must select "run as administrator" for combofix to work properly.
3) Download and run TDSSKiller.
4) Do a complete virus scan with a good program (like AVAST which has a free version)
5) Run CHKDSK on each hard drive. Syntax is "chkdsk C: /R" where you replace C: with the appropriate drive letter.
6) Run the command "sfc /scannow" in a command prompt window that was started using the run as administrator option.
7) Download the software to test your hard drive from the drive manufacturer's web site and run the long test.
