Recovering to a new PC from an old machine with valid 2015 backup

Thread needs solution

I have an old PC with 2015 true image on it, I backed it up with a full backup to a usb hard disk. I now have a brand new PC and want to restore the entire older system (OS and all files), any clue what options I use in 2015 true image to restore the old onto the new?

If you restore your old pc OS and files to the new pc you will end up with XP,WIN7 or whatever your old OS is on the new machine. Is this what you want to do? In other words if your new pc is Win8 you will no longer have Win8 unless the old machine is also Win8.

I want to migrate my entire drive (OS apps and data) to a new PC.  I tried reading the help files but I'm afraid it is too much for me to decipher.  I have regularly cloned my old machine's HD succesfully.  I was hoping that I could simply clone the current image to the new drive, but that may not be possible. I used Acronis 2015 and I can't get free help from Acronis, which I see as poor customer service and am reluctant to buy 2016 just to get free help.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Acronis provides free support for recovery issues outside of the 30 day support period.

So forget about cloning and create a full disk mode backup of the system you want to migrate and then contact support.  Make sure you specify that you have a recovery issue. See the image below for an example of which options to select when contacting support.

I would also create a full disk mode backup of the new system, just in case the migration of your old system goes south.  Migrating an old OS to a new system has never been a trivial task and UEFI and GPT have further complicated the operation.
