Recovering partitions

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I was using Acronis True Image 10 until I upgraded to Windows 10 when it was no longer compatible.

I have deleted the program but I am now left with  a 300gb Acronis back-up partition on my C: drive that I would like to merge back into my main partition.

Looking at the disk with Windows Disk Management I can see the partition but the only option I get when I right click is to delete the partion.

If I do that can I then extend my C: partion to use the space from this deleted partion?

Any help welcome, thanks.

Hello Ashley, yes you can make all the changes from within Windows Disk Management, so once you are sure that there is nothing you need to keep from the 300GB Acronis backup partition, take the option to delete this partition, then once you have that space showing as being unallocated, you can then select to extend your Windows C: partition into that space.

In the above, I am assuming that these partitions are adjacent to each other with no other partitions inbetween.

The alternative method would be to use a partition manager such as Acronis Disk Director if you have it, or else you can download a free partition manager from such as Easeus or AOMEI which will do the same via a graphical interface.

As with all changes of this type, the recommendation would be to ensure that you have a backup of your main Windows partitions (including the System Reserved partition if you have one) - if you no longer have Acronis TrueImage, then use the Windows 7 Backup options still available in Windows 10 to create a System image on an external drive.  Search in the Windows 10 Control panel for this option.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes the partitions are adjacent so I will do as you suggest and delete the old Acronis partition.

I might invest in a new version of True Image that is compatible with Windows 10 so this partition may well be created again some time in the future but for now I will use the built in back-up facility.

Thanks again,

Ashley
