Recovery and re-installation problems with Home 2011 Plus Pack and upgrade

Thread needs solution

After a serious problem with my computer I have had to re-install Windows XP from the computer recovery disc. I re-installed Home 2011 but when I try to re-install Plus Pack the error message says that I need a full copy of the Home 2011 in order to install. I also had the upgrade pack but that refuses to install for the same reason. It keeps on downloading and updating upon installation but to no apparent effect. The bootable media did not work whilst trying to solve the original problem and Home 2011 does not recognise my .tbi Backups on my external hard drive as valid backup files. I have followed the advice on emptying the Temp folder and ensuring that the services are running but to no effect.
If I have broken any rules on posting I aplogise but if anyone can help or suggest anything I can try before I carry on re-building my computer (without Acronis)

If yo have the original ati 2011 installer that you first used, install that, then install the plus pack. If you don't have the original ati2011 installer, you can download from the arocnis website by logging in and going to product updates.

If the Plus pack is is a n update version it should only ask for the serial of the prior version; it shouldn't fail to update. ATI2011 should recognize backups made with any version going back to ati 10 (not 2010 but 10). Try moving a backup to an interanl and see if the bootcd can accept the backup as valid. If so, then restore from that.

Failing that, yo could try using the ati cleanup utility and the micrsoft cleanup utility and then try again to install ati and then the plus pack.

Thanks for the response Scott
As per my original post the installer was the original (held on a memory stick) That installs satisfactorily but as soon as I try to install the Plus Pack it gives the error message as stated. No further progress is possible. The installed copy of Home 2011 will not recognise the backup file held on my external drive.
As with all the things Acronis everything gets complicated (what is the ati cleanup utility? what/where is the Microsoft utility?)
I am afraid I have given up and am re-installing all my software. Luckily I have all my data stored elsewhere because I did not trust Acronis and found it too complicated to be sure that I had saved the right data in the right place. Turns out fully justified!!
