recovery disk fails

Thread needs solution

HD died, installed a new one ... I'm using acronis 11 home from around 2008. when I try to boot with the boot disk, it loads to the menu screen, but the screen goes dark when I click on the recovery feature. .. so I can't access the back up files.

also, if I do just buy the latest 2014 version, will it be able to read my existing back up files that were created with the old v11 home version?

many thanks
charlie

Try to restore the backup onto the hard drive before installing the motherboard so you can install the mb drivers onto working system
otherwise you may need to get the premium version nof 2014 in order to get the univseral restore feature for restoring dis-similar hardware.

GroverH... I tried loading the backup to the new hard drive... but it won't load .. the splash screen comes up , but when I chose to restore, the screen goes blank and stays that way for hours... a reboot is required.. which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't ... also the internet doesn't connect and the USB cards do not work .
thanks

also.. if I do have to get the 2014 version of acronis, will it still be able to read the backups created with the old v11 home??

Just to make sure I am understanding correctly, what you are saying is that
you boot into the Acrnis Cd
From the menu, choose True Image (other choices includes boot into Window and System Report)
After TrueImage loads, you then select Recovery
At which time the screen goes blank
Is this what is happening?

Yes, 2014 will resore V11 but do plan on keeping your V11 CD around just as a precaution.
