Recovery does not complete

I have Acronis 2009 that has been updated to 2011 and have purchased upgrade to 2012 but reluctant to install at this stage until I can resolve my recovery of my incremental backup of my data to my USB.
I get some of it on there but much is missing. I am able to copy from the Acronis backup file to my hard drive but I cannot copy that onto my formatted USB. I am using XP service pack 3 and have used recover successfully on my hard drive back-up.
Any suggestions.
