Hello Ralf, what recovery media are you using when you are attempting to recover your Windows 8.1 tablet?

If it is the standard Linux based recovery media, then I suspect that this doesn't know how to work with the hardware in your tablet computer and I would recommend creating the ATIH 2015 Windows PE rescue media and trying that instead.

Ralf, what type of tablet do you have?  Many newer tablets are UEFI only and have secure boot turned on by default as well.  if secure boot is turned on, it will not allow the booting of external USB hard drives and this would need to be turned off.   Depending on your tablet, after rebooting or powering off and back on, you may also have to press a specific button to get to the boot override menu (often times, this is either F1, F12, Esc, or DEL0, but you'll want to refer to your tablet manufacturer user guide to help determine what your speciifc system boot override key would be.  Some tablets, like the surface pro, actually require that you completley turn off the tablet.  Then you must hold "volume -" for approximately 5 seconds, continue holiding "volume -" and press power at the same time to enter the bios and/or to get to the boot override menu so that you can select the bootable USB drive.
