Recovery Questions

Thread needs solution

I have been using Acronis for Backup and Recovery since TrueImage 10 and had never had any real problems until I moved to Acronis 2012 and even now my problems are with understanding the Restore functionality dialog rather than issues with the actual restores themselves.

Last week I found I was having some disc problems so I did a complete restore from the restore partition my laptop came with. I then used Acronis 2012 to do a backup of the newly restored system and proceeded to rebuild my system by re-installing my software. As I went along I made addition backups (complete images, not incremental backups) to make sure that I would not have to do the whole thing again. In the end it turned out that the disc could not be salvaged so I took another disc, formatted it and replaced the existing disc with the new one. I then booted the system from the Acronis boot media to do the restore from my external usb drive. Here is where the problem showed up.

The backup contains 2 partitions, C and D, as well as a small unused space and the MBR, but when I try to do the restore Acronis asks me for information for Partition 1-2 and Partition C. These are 2 choices and the backup contains C and D. My logical assumption is that I should use backup C for Partition C and backup D for Partition 1-2, but I have no idea if that is right. Nor do I understand why, if the backup contains C and D, I am being asked about 1-2 and C. Does C correspond to C and D correspond to 1-2? Or is 1-2 actually C and C actually D? Why does one of the selections have 1-2 (rather than 1) and does that mean that it corresponds to 2 partitions? Or am I missing the point completely.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
