Reduce partition size

Thread needs solution

I just bought a Dell PC with a 1TB drive partitioned as follows:

P1: 500MB EFI system
P2: 40MB OEM
P3: 490MB recovery
P4: 917GB boot, system, plus data (Used space is 50GB)
P5: 350MB recovery
P6: 12.7GB recovery

If I do a disk backup of the above drive, can I tell ATI-2014 during a restore to make one or more of the partitions smaller? In other words can I tell the restore process to reduce partition P4 from 917GB to 500GB, because I have much less data than that on that partition?

Can ATI handle all these partitions without problems during a disk backup then a restore?

My whole goal is to be able to restore the 1TB drive to a smaller drive.

After making this post I found KB-2770 and GroverH TIH2012 pdf. Both appear to be dated but very useful. If there are any changes or supplements to these articles, I would appreciate a pointer.

Thank you.
