Rescue CD stuck on a black screen

Thread needs solution

I have downloaded the latest Bootable Media from 2014-02-22, but I cannot manage to get the Rescue CD to boot. After the Loader terminates and I choose to boot Acronis True Image 2014, it gets stuck on a black screen with nothing happening at all.

I have tried my previous True Image 2013 Rescue CD, which used to work, and it gets stuck in exactly the same way. I tried disconnecting all USB devices, but the problem is still there.

The only difference from before that I can see, is that I have added a second internal hard disk of 4 TB.

I also wonder why, having bought Acronis True Image 2014 only on 26 December 2013, the Support website insists that my support has elapsed. Doesn't Acronis guarantee its products now?

Support is unfortunately only for 30 days after purchase unless the issue involves a failed restore.

The black screen issue is in all probability is an unsupported hardware issue between your machine and the Linux kernel that drives the Rescue CD. If you purchased the premium version of TI then I would suggest you create a WinPE disk so that the TI app will run under a Windows environment rather than Linux thus gaining hardware support. You are right to suspect the 4GB drive.

Thanks Bob for your detailed answer.

I'm not going to shell out for Premium, just in order to be able to restore my backups.

I found AOMEI Backupper, which did the same backup, just faster and with a smaller backup file than Acronis, and which created a WinPE boot CD that works.
All this for free. Now I feel like an idiot for paying the Acronis True Image upgrade.

Harry,
It's probably due to unsupported vga mode. My 800x600 and 1024x768 capable screen would not boot right (using the rescue CD) and had to change the vga resolution. If you google for "acronis rescue cd vga mode" you should get a bunch of hits on how to change the vga resolution when booting from the CD.

One note of caution, some of the KBs will guide you through it, and you'll find yourself staring at the Linux shell prompt "#"

What some of the KBs fail to mention is that you need to type "/bin/product" to launch the gui.
