Rescue CD test question??

Thread needs solution

Hi Folks
I created a resuce cd (ATI Home 2011) quite a while ago, but ive never tested it to see if it sees my external drive (Gasp!)
also i want to see if i can recover some files of the external disc, im sure ive seen a guide somewhere telling you exactly how to go about testing the recovery disc, but ive looked and cant seem to find it anywhere.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or give me a quick tutorial, i just think i need to do this asap as i keep hearing about friends with failing hard drives and i dont want to be caught out by having my system all backed up but with no way to restore it!!

Thanks
Pete

Boot on the recovery CD. Choose recover file and folders, try to recover a couple of files from your backup to your disk.

If this works, you have tested your computer can boot on the CD, ATI can run, you can use your mouse and keyboard, ATI can see your disks and your backup is good.

Then, choose recover whole disk and partitions and get familiar with the process and choices until the final step of the wizard, where you DON'T proceed.

Thanks Pat , i tested it all last night and everything seemed to work as planned, but i have a further question.

i was hoping to have a go at restoring a particular file, but when i click on the restore button it just seems to want to restore the whole backup, what i mean is that if i'm restoring a picture file when working with TI within windows, i open up TI then browse to my picture backups, i can then go into that back up file & find the exact file i want to restore, yet when i boot and restore from the CD i dont seem to get that option, it just seems to want to restore the whole "My Pictures" Backup, am i missing something here??

Also if i click the restore button will it give me the option of where i want it restored to, ie another external disc, or will it just restore it to the directory it was backed up from?

Hi
Can anyone help with this as i would like to try this out again tonight when i get home, just dont want to mess anything up :-(

Pete

After you select to restore the image backup you select the method (this is the second step of the wizard). Select to Recover chosen files and folders. You can select to restore to the original location or a new location. When testing, I recommend using a new location.
