Rescue disk, 2015, does not detect my external USB 3.0 backup drive. Windows 7 does see it

Thread needs solution

I am unable to get the 2015 Rescue disk to see my external Seagate, USB 3.0, 3TB drive. Windows see it just fine, and the windows Acronis program backs up to the drive OK. But, why cant RESCUE disk find this backup. This is a high priority problem.

There is a driver issue with the 2015 boot media. Look here: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/76154#comment-256280

If you're still on support, please do not hesitate to complain to Acronis. According to those posts this problem has been fixed and they are sitting on the solution until Windows 10 is released. That is completely unacceptable.

After your support window runs out, it'll cost you $20 to contact anybody in support about this. Which means the price of getting actual USE out of your $50 backup program is $70.

Did you try to create a WinPE based recovery media? That solved the USB 3.0 disk support issue for me.

Yeah, Pat, but when I read your post even the WinPE alternative sounded like it was way too much work.

The stand-up thing for Acronis to do is to update the Linux ISO, now rather than later, and then take a look at why the rescue disc generator isn't working for so many people. I have dumped way too many hours into trying to figure out why my computer doesn't work with this name-brand product -- it really troubles me to find out the problem is them. But it inflames me to find out they're sitting on the fix until Windows 10. That's completely unacceptable.

I almost wasted a couple hundred bucks last night on more new USB 3.0 storage to try to troubleshoot this. If I almost did it, then I'm sure other users have actually done it. Time for this company to start to recognize the burden this problem is imposing on its paying customers.

Creating a WinPE disk requires indeed to download and install a couple of things, so, yep, it is not quite out of box, but it has the benefit of using Windows drivers

I don't know if this helps, but I booted up on my last years (2014) disk, and selected the restore function. Then requested a browse function to find the backup. It turns out that the rescue disk program on the older 2014 DVD found and listed by backup! Same function or steps using the new 2015 disk do not work. Interesting.

You would have to verify you can restore properly. For sure backward compatibility is established, but "forward" compatibility is quite possible.

Having fallen victim to this problem too, I would add that there was no problem with the initial issue 5539. I have retained USB boot media created via 5539 and performed a number of restores without issue. Acronis Service have shown me various other ways in addition to creating WINPE which do much the same thing. The only problem if you haven't retained a 5539 boot media is that you have to reinstall the 5539 version from your account just to produce it etc. There won't be any connection for Disk Director 12.

I recall that there was a problem getting a wireless mouse to work in 5539 so whilst burning the boot media you had to inject 'force_modules=usbhid' at the appropriate time to get it to work.

As previously mentioned by jibrady I can vouch for older ATI version boot media getting USB3 HDD discovered and restores accomplished.

Hello Everyone,

I'm glad to let you know that our development found the cause of the issue and offered a custom .iso of the bootable media based on Acronis Backup which incorporates the fix.

I've sent you download links via private messages.

Thank you.

Anna, I have the same problem. Please send me the link for the custom .iso details as above, Jeff

This appears to have been fixed in True Image 2015 Build: #6613 released 2015-07-20.
This build recognised my Segate 1TB USB 3 drive, earlier builds did not.
