Rescue disk creation error
Acronis True Image 2014 Rescue Media Builder is generating the following error while trying to format the target media (CD-R/RW disk).
Error occurred while writing the file. (0x40003) Tag = 0x8B7F8138EBD33EEF
Can you translate the error code for me?
Thanks for any help. I know you are busy

Thanks for hitting me back GH! My bad...I was Not using a blank CD and Rescue Media Builder could not reformat it. It would be nice if Rescue Media Builder indicated up front that blank disks are required...since it does offer, but then fails, to reformat the used disk.
So Now using a brand new fresh Memorex CD-RW disk: pop-up dialogue box reads "Invalid Media - Provide another media and try again."
GroverH wrote:which version of Windows?
Running XP Pro Sp3. Hence the NEED for disaster recovery capability.
GroverH wrote:Another option is to download only the iso file to another computer and burn the CD from the downloaded file.
Why is another pc (which I don't have) necessary?

Try using a blank unused CD-R rather than RW. If this is a desktop, leave the CD-R tray open and let the program close the tray with the new CD.
If you continue to get errors, this is why I was suggesting an alternate computer as the errors are not normal.

Referring to the download and iso file:
Your XP computer will work but a Win7 or 8 had built in tools and your XP does not.
Most likely, you will need to download ImgBurn which is free and use it.
After installoing ImgBurn,
Right click on the ISO file and choose ImgBurn and burn to CD using ImgBurn.

Open tray made no improvement.
I gotta hand it to ImgBurn; it is rife with bloatware of which there is no way to opt out of the following: Dealkeeper, Optimizer Pro, StormAlerts, DriverSupport, myPCBacvkup.com. There IS an opportunity to opt INTO Rocket browser but it installs even if left unchecked and makes itself the default browser without asking.
But I tried anyway:
Unused CD-R or Unused CD-R/W: Failed to set Write Parameters! Reason: Invalid Field in Parameter List
So I'm removing bloatware and hoping to find out what "Parameters" are. :(
Looks like I will have to find that "other computer". LOL

Referring to the iso file downloaded from your account,
Right click on the file and choose open with imgburn

Yep, done that several times. including after a cold boot as recommended on one of the many related ImgBurn Forum posts. Same result.
"Failed to set Write Parameters! Reason: Invalid Field in Parameter List"
Followed the ImgBurn tutorial instructions on writing an image file to disc.

I downloaded and burnt the same process that I suggested to you and had no issues.
Lets step back and review:
The file you downloaded is a 2014 version file from your account.
The file extension ends in iso.
The name of the downloaded file is
TrueImage2014_en-US.iso
size is approximately 446,976 bytes
The below is the procedure and path I used to get there which is as I suggested in post #1 except the illustration shows 2013 whereas I downloaded the 2014 version.
Figure 7= To download the TrueImage bootable ISO file only, begin here.
A TI Recovery CD can be created from this iso file without the installation of the progam.
Your log file shows the correct named file so all appears to match except for file size and my file size could differ as I am using the Premium version.
If your procedures matched the above, my only other suggestion is to download the iso file again as it looks like you have an issue with the file.

You did not download Imgburn from the proper website. The correct link is http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download. If you Googled Imgburn the first link that pops up is for a site that bundles several pieces of Crapware with Imgburn.

I concur with Grover, my downloaded iso file is exactly what his is and was downloaded just a few days ago. Suggest delete your current iso file and download the iso file again.

@thomasjk Yes, when I saw that junk I was in a hurry and forgot I could/should go directly to imgburn site. But most of the junk included uninstall capability. That new-kid-in-town Rocket browser was especially rude tho LOL.
@GroverH Thanks for the review which confirms I have followed guidance correctly. I have now re-downloaded the 446,976KB TrueImage2014_en-US.iso file, cold booted my pc, selected the fresh iso file, opened with ImgBurn, and still fails as above on a fresh CD-R disc.
Fyi, I've tried other image burners, e.g. Alex Feinman's ISORecorder and FreeISOBurner, with no luck. My CD appears to be working properly for other purposes.

If you have a friend with a Win7 PC, he/she could burn it for you. In Windows 7, you don't need any third-party software. Right-click the .iso and select "Burn disc image".

Thanks folks. Not encouraging that ImgBurn does not work on MY computer but my friend has Win7 or 8 so I will go that route.
Now, regarding this Rescue disc, is it usable on more than one pc? as in any pc with Acronis?
- Log in to post comments

Yes.

Turns out my friend's pc does not have a cdrom. Can I buy a Rescue Disk from Acronis?
- Log in to post comments

Stick a flash drive into a usb port and click the TrueImage Tools Menu to "Create Bootable recover disk"
The Recovery CD can be created on a usb Flash drive.

Unfortunately, my ancient Bios does not support boot-from-usb.

Click on my signature link 9 and follow the pictures to picture 9.
That shows how to download the iso file from your own web account.
once you have the iso file downloaded, you can RIGHT clckk on the iso file name and choose the optoion to
open with Windows disk burner
and this will enable you to burn your own RecoveryCD.
or repeat the above on another computer which has a CD device.

LOL. We're going in circles here. ;-) But thanks. I have XP which does not have built-in burning capability and non-Microsoft image burners are declining to work on my pc even tho ImageBurn does work on your pc. I don't suppose Acronis will sell me a Rescue disk.

Another option would be to
If you have a local library, go there and use their equipment to burn a new TI Recovery.
