Rescue Media Builder 2015 does not recognize USB drive; Backup does?

Thread needs solution

Rescue Media Builder 2015 does not recognize USB drives; Backup does? Anybody tell me what's with that or suggest a work around? I've been using True Image Home for more years than I can recall and it would really be nice if just one of those many years I did not have any issues with it.

David,

I don't quite understand. What do you mean 'backup does', are you referring to the Windows version?

What type of USB drives are you using?

Are they plugged in before TI starts?

I just downloaded the update to Acronis 2015 and I can confirm that the Rescue Media created with the updated version no longer sees my external USB drive. The old Rescue Media saw the drive, the new Rescue Media does not. Really?

. . . JBrush

I have 2 Samsung notebook computers.  Both are running Win 10.  One recognized a USB drive for creating a Rescue Media.  The other will not.  I have tried running CMD, Partition, etc. to repartition the drive as a primary FAT 32 drive.  Rescue Media still does not list the USB drive for selecting media.  Windows directories show the USB drive and properties look OK to me.  I am attaching a screen shot showing properties of that drive.

I believe I have identical versions of Acronis True Image 2016 installed on both computers.  Acronis reports up to date on both when I start ATI.

Best regards,

Mike

Mike, it looks to me that your USB drive is being regarded as a fixed disk drive given that you are showing both a recycle bin and system volume information folder.  Have you booted the computer with the USB drive attached from when powered off?

I powered the computer down, plugged in the drive, powered the computer back up, and tried to build an Acronis Rescue Media.  It still did not offer the USB drive as a potential media type.  I am attaching a screen shot that may offer a little help.

Thanks +++

Mike, sorry but I think you read my question as a direction as I was asking if you had booted with the USB stick inserted and now you say you have.  My point is that doing so can cause Windows to think the USB stick is a fixed drive instead of being a removable drive, and may not offer you the option to 'safely remove' it because of this.

Thanks Steve,

I've done it both ways :-(

Mike

Mike, do you have the last available version of ATIH 2015 installed on both your Samsung notebooks? This should be build 6613.

Also, if you create the rescue media on the system that recognises the USB drive, does it work on the one that doesn't recognise it?

Hi Steve and thanks again,

Someone from Acronis called me today and spent quite a while working on my computer from wherever he is.  He installed Acronis True Image 6569 and did a few other things.  Eventually he used another utility to make a bootable thumb drive for this computer.   More to come.... I am sure.  I was impressed with the things he knew how to do and the speed with which he did the things.  He obviously knows Windows 10, Avast! anti-virus etc., Firefox, and on, and on, and on.  :-)

Glad to hear you have a solution to this issue, and thanks for giving feedback, especially about having help from the Acronis support person.
