Reserve copy option and password protection

Thread needs solution

I'm a new ATI2012 user and I've been setting up all my scheduled backups yesterday. One of the features I use is the option to backup remotely to a FTP server I already had. I have protected this backup with a password and I'm using AES encryption. So far everything is fine...

Because I don't want to be dependent on the remote backup necessarily, I've also set one of the advanced options that creates a second "reserve copy" of the backup. A couple of things about this option don't work exactly how I would expect:

  • The reserve copy (on a different local hard disk) is apparently not password protected, even though the job that created it is set to password protect. Why?
  • The created .tib file is called "MyBackup reserved copy". Surely this should be reserve copy, reserved is something entirely different.
  • The option actually seems to be basically doing two backup runs instead of just one. It seems to me that reading data once and writing it to two locations (at whichever speed is slowest) would make a lot more sense and save a lot of disk I/O (as well as CPU power if it were actually password protecting and encrypting).

Now I suppose I could just create a second backup job to create a local copy, but that requires more maintenance, because I hand pick some directories for this backup. I think it's a nice feature, but it seems to me like it could use some work?
