Reserved Copy Drive full - Advice needed.
I am creating reserved copies of my backup on a 2nd drive. Both my Primary and secondary drives are 2TB. My backup backup is about 250gig. My problem is that the secondary drive is full.
My question is why are the backup and reserved files not the same size and if I deleted the reserved copies will the program update the secondary drive with a full reserved copy?
Hope I am explaining myself properly here and would appreciate some advice.

Hello Robert,
Thank you for your question.
As Pat already told you, the reserved copies need more space. See our Online Help for more Information.
A reserve copy always contains all the files selected for backup, that is, when creating a reserve copy the program always makes a full backup of the source data. You cannot make a reserve copy in the form of an incremental or differential backup, even in tib format.
So, the best way is to follow the suggestion from Pat and create a second backup task for the other destination.
Let me know if you need additional help please.
Thank you.

I'm in the same situation, back-up drive getting filled with Reserve Copies. My .pdf instructions seem to make reference to commands I don't fine in the 2012 software, and, other items that I have no idea what they mean, to wit:
3.10: To delete backups and backup versions (does this include deleting reserved copies? I'm assuming so)
1. On the backup and recovery tab, find the corresponding backup box, click Explore and Recover (ok, so far)
2. In Backup explorer (what exactly is this? What you see when you "click on Explore and Recover"?), click on the time line (what's a "time line"? I see nothing that has anything to do with time that drops a menu when you right click on it) the version you want to delete, and then click "Delete Version" (I see no drop down menus anywhere in which an option is "Delete Version"). Can someone translate for me the meaning of "time line" and what, exactly, it is I should click on to delete a reserved copy. Thanks for any help you can offer
Finally, it was my original intent just to do one reserve backup, when I did my first backup... and then from time to time, do another reserve. But, it seems it is doing a reserve backup every time it does an incremental backup (which I have set to do once/week). I can't even find anything in my current backup schedule that mentions reserve backups. Any idea how I stop it from doing reserve backups every week?
Again, thanks for any help.

Ok.. I apologize.. I DID find where to stop the reserve copy each week. So that's taken care of. Now, if you can still answer the question about how to delete most of the existing reserve copies (taking up too much room; want to keep a few but delete most of them) I would still appreciate it. I guess it's easy enough just to drop down the "gear" tools menu and click on "delete", as long as that's how it's to be done. The instructions make it sound a bit more involved, and so I don't want to do it wrong, then need to do a recovery later and find out I can't. :)
Thanks

You can delete the reserve copies manually if you want.

Hello Acronis
It seems very illogical to function Reserved Copy is much larger than the original backup. It requires unnecessary extra administration, and do not follow normal. logic when you as a user must set it up.
As I read it, you can not use Reserved Copy to something, because the function does not fill the same as the original, and that it does not clean up after themselves when there is no more disk space. It requires constant attention to the extra disks you might use. It is often both 2 or more discs, so you then need to manually monitor disk space. Almost superhuman task Acronis True Image should be able to handle.
"Reserved Copy" is actually the main backup because it can be removed from the PC and protect it against fire, theft, and ransomware, which is why it makes no sense that this feature requires so much attention.
If you choose to set up an additional backup job, it suddenly two jobs you have to manage, and it is not possible to use a 3rd disc in a rotational pattern.
I have previously used Norton Ghost and the clarified this task successfully, and I had read the documentation for Acronis True Image that it could cope with something similar, so it's disappointing now discovering that it does not actually work.
Can you provide a way to handle the backup of 3 or more disks with Acronis True image, without the need Manuels having to check disk space regularly. Maybe I missed something?
In these ransomware times, it is imperative to have discs away from the PC, and in several versions.

Hello Sune,
Thank you for your comprehensive statements with regards to Reserve Copy but please realise that this is just a user forum and your comments will not necessarily reach the people at Acronis who need to hear them.
Please use the Feedback option within your Acronis application - found in the Help section in recent versions - feedback sent in this way will go directly to the Acronis developers.
In terms of protecting against ransomware, you are correct that you need to take extra precautions to protect against this type of malware infection, including keeping copies of your backup images on offline media, or stored in locations with no default access from any system that might become infected.
One of the most common weaknesses on very many computer systems is that the default user account has full administrative privileges and hence any virus, trojan or other malware infection can access all available disk drives, including some cloud storage if file changes are written automatically without need to enter credentials.
You should look at the Best Practices Forum which has a lot of good information on backup schemes etc.
