Reset backup

Thread needs solution

I inadvertently deleted a backup from the file system and Acronis is now confused. How do i reset the backup and and tell Acronis to get on with the next (differential) backup?

Thanks in advance

Run manual validation and respond "ignore" to each error prompt message.

That didn't work i'm afraid. There were no error prompts which i could ignore. The only thing that came up was the following dialog and Retry was pointless

Another option you mgiht try would be to open the program inside Windows and simulate a restore.
The first steps of the simulated restore will look and find the missing file and hopefully issue the errors message--same as the other one except hopefully it will have the ignore option. After the igrnore message (may appear more than once) then cancel the restore.

When was the first full B1 created? I would encourage you not to have too much time beween full backups.
I would also select a prior backup and try validation again on like the last diff of B83.

At this point, it would seem that you should stop using that task and begin with new task with a new name and storage location.

GH11. Create Custom Full Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup....Store/Keep 4 versions (chains). Use whatever number best fits the individual needs..

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

GH13. Create Custom Differential Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 2 Diff per chain. Store/Keep 2 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

At this point, it would seem that you should stop using that task and begin with new task with a new name and storage location.

Is that now your considered opinion as against "Another option .."? I was beginning to think that myself. I must say i'm pretty surprised it's so hard to reset. Surely a new storage location would not be necessary?

A new storage location is not requred or suggested by Acronis but over the years, I have found that there seems to be less confusion to the user and the program when tasks are kept separated, which is why a new location as well as a new name is always part of my recommendations.

To clarify, a new location can be simply a new sub-folder inside the a larger folder. A different path is a differnt location is the folder names differ.
One of the ways I do this is for the folder name to be same as the taskname but all the tasks inside the same main folder but with their own folder names..

Yes, inside each task edit options is a "clone settings" option.

That can be the basis of a new task but you need to change the name and desination and make sure the other settings are what you want BEFORE using it for backups.
