[RESOLVED] Acronis version of Linux won't run on my machine
I cannot make a True Image 12 rescue disk that will work. I have made rescue CDs and rescue flash drives using the wizards in Disk Director 11 and True Image Home 12, and I have downloaded the 'bootable' image from my account. It makes no difference, because the problem is not in the quality of the image......... it's in the version of Linux Acronis uses in their programs.
I have also interrupted the boot process using the F11 key to insert Linux parameters as suggested in the Acronis knowledge base. One parameter, pci=nobios, allows the program to start to initiate, but ends with a terminal window and a command prompt (#) rather than running the program.
Ergo, it appears I need to make True Image rescue media using WinPE for Windows 7, rather than The Linux version. Disk Director offers that option, and I tried it, and it worked fine. True Image Home 12, however, does NOT offer that option (at least not using their bootable media creation wizard), and I cannot, unfortunately restore disk partitions from backup files using Disk Director.
My machine is new, with a Biostar B75MU3+ motherboard, a sandy bridge chipset, an Intel G620 dual core CPU, Bios = American Megatrends V4.6.5, dated 03/01/12, and I have 16 megs of DDR3 dual channel memory.
I tried booting the Free version of EaseUS ToDo backup..... and it booted up and initiated the program just fine (apparently their version of Linux works in my machine). Of course, it won't restore Acronis backup files, so if I cannot get Acronis to get me a working Rescue Disk, I'll have to dump them altogether. And it doesn't help that my free tech support ends day after tomorrow.
Anybody got any suggestions?

Thank you. I'll give that a try (yes, I replaced the 'quiet' command with 'cpi=nobios' so I can see the script running).
In the mean time, I was able to get an Acronis tech to direct me to a knowledgebase article on creating a WinPE rescue disk for TI12. Apparently you can't do it with the regular TI 12. You have to have 'Plus'. As it happens, I had a Plus installed on another machine, so I was able to use it in conjunction with Microsoft AIK (a 2.5 hour download and installation on a second machine) to create a WinPE build of the TI rescue disk..... and it works fine.
I'm guessing Acronis makes you go get the Microsoft software and build the disk yourself rather than just providing the option because of licensing issues. Altogether, it took about 3 hours to get the thing built, but I can now make copies of it, and as I said.... it works fine.
For anybody else having the Linux issue, the knowledgebase article on creating the WinPE media is: http://kb.acronis.com/print/23882
I now consider this issue resolved. Thanks MudCrab!
