[Resolved] ATI 2011 or 2012?

Thread needs solution

Hello for all members,

I had order a new HTPC computer with Windows 7
Therefore I need another license for Acronis True Image Home
Acronis customer service told me that they no longer provide TI 2011.
the only way to buy it, is from third party vendor

Frankly, The reason that I prefer TI 2011 , is because I heard that the 2012 version have a lot of bugs.
I read it here, actually.

So now I wonder if there is any change. Maybe a new build that is safe for use.
Maybe even better from TI 2011

Thanks

Hello Avi,

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us, and for your interest in our products.

I understand your hesitation. Still as it's a technical Forum, users usually post here issues they've faced. Most of the happy Customers don't visit Forums at all.

I would advise you to test the solution before making a decision. You can find a trial version right here, it's valid for 30 days, and has only these limitations. Our chat support will also be glad to address all your questions during the trial period.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply ,Yana
Frankly, I don't like trial versions. I use to buy products, only after hearing positive feedbacks about them

The only issue is if 2012 screws the pooch for you, then it can be very hard to get rid of. there are (were) several threads on this issue (despite what Acronis claims, they did go on a thread deletion campaign two weeks ago).

The final 2011 is pretty stable, so you may want to download and install it to see if it hits your needs. if not, it can be 'cleaned up' with the downloadable 'cleanup utility'. 2012 is not ready for prime time (despite what Acronis claims), maybe with update 2 it will be a lot closer.

Thanks hhansard

I am using the 2011 version on my other machine.
It's indeed stable, except from one problem that had been solved.
I asked to buy a second license , but Acronis official site did not provide it any more.
I understand that TI2011 may be achived only at third party sources.

I don't mind to use TI2012, but I afraid it's not safe for use

==>I asked to buy a second license , but Acronis official site did not provide it any more.
there have been folks that purchased a 2012 license, but download 2011. Can be done, but not sure of the process.

Thanks hhansard
I'd rather not getting involved with an action whose consequences are unclear

ok. just one thing, before you install 2012 you should take a full system backup. This is the only way to restore a system to operational status if 2012 corrupts your system-level drivers.

I will not buy TI 2012 till I be sure for 100% that it's safe for use, without causing any damage to my machine

wait for rev2 to surface, then watch the forums for issues. the biggest downside is the bypassing of hal and installing custom drivers that may conflict with the os.

Thanks for the advice.
I will keep checking for new developments
Meanwhile, I chose to use another backup software
Too bad that they do not provide the possibility to purchase older versions, which are considered stable

Hello Avi and hhansard,

Thank you for your comments.

Avi, I completely understand your concern, and your decision. hhansard is partially right in his messages: we do provide our Customers with the ability to obtain the older products, which are no longer sold online. It's called downgrading, and works like this:

if you have a license of Acronis True Image Home 2012, and you want to obtain Acronis True Image Home 2011, you will need to register 2012 license to your account on our website, then purchase Service Handling Fee, and provide us with the receipt. We will forward this payment to the serial key generating service, and they will send us the key for Acronis True Image Home 2011, which will be forwarded for you shortly. We will also update your account information, replacing Acronis True Image Home 2012 with Acronis True Image Home 2011.

hhansard, thank you for your comments, and for your assistance.

However I have to ask you not to provide the information on Forum that has no grounds or proof.

We did not "go on a thread deletion campaign two weeks ago" (I've even checked our Forum logs. We didn't.), and according to our Development team our software does not bypass HAL (It's technically impossible). If you have any issues that might make you think so, you need to contact support, and we'll help you resolve it.

But posting the incorrect information, especially information without any proof, is considered negative spamming, which is a violation of Forum TOU, and will result in permanent ban from the Forum.

However I agree that it's always good to wait till the next update release if you're unsure, as each update contains more fixes than the previous one.

So long story short:

Avi, if you would like to receive Acronis True Image Home 2011, please contact our support with the license of Acronis True Image Home 2012, and Service Handling Fee receipt (or you can contact me directly via PM with this information).

hhansard, please avoid posting unproven information, or we will have to ban you for violating of TOU.

Thank you all for understanding, and cooperation.

As the initial question was resolved, we're considering this thread being resolved.

Thank you.
