[Resolved] Cannot Access Files in Mounted Image From Different Computer

Thread needs solution

What do I need to do to access MY files from MY computers in MY Acronis mounted image? I have made a full backup from one pc and I am trying to access/copy those files from the mounted image to a second pc. I have Acronis Home 2012 on both PCs and I am logged in as the administrator on both PCs when I do the backup/access. I get all kinds of security windows that popup which will not allow me to access MY own files on MY own computers using MY licensed Acronis software on both computers. What the heck is going on? What the heck is this software supposed to be good for if not what I am trying to use it for? Please tell me what kind of underhanded back-door crap I have to do just to access/copy my files, please... Already spent about 4 hours backing up, etc, trying to do this. How many more hours do I have to spend doing I should have been able to do in the first place on MY computers with MY software. I am always the Administrator on both computers for God's sake!!!!! Help Would Be Appreciated

AJ777,

It is Windows itself that is preventing you from accessing your files from the other PC. This is due to Windows security features and the difference between the two systems SSID's ( System Security Identifiers).

What you need to do is to take ownership of the files.

Right click on the folder or file you need to access and select Properties.

Click on the Security tab.

Click on the Advanced button just below the second panel.

Click on the Owner tab.

Select the Edit button.

Type into the text box your user name on the PC you are using.

If you see a choice to propagate to all sub folders, tick this box.

Click on OK.

You should now be able to access that file or set of folders.

I have the same issue. Trying these steps I get a pop-up that says "You only have permission to view the owner on {machine #2}".

Eric,

Have you tried taking ownership of the complete tib file? I don't know if this would make any difference in your case.

My fault. My hand slapped the side of my head when I tried this again today. I hadn't noticed an open to make the newly mounted drive read-write. When it was read-only (the way I did all my previous times since I'm just viewing or restoring) I don't have the option to change ownership. And this makes total sense that I shouldn't be able to. Making it read-write did allow me to change ownership and continue on.

Thanks again. The advice was correct, just add that the image should be mounted read-write.
