Restore of ATI 2014 backup creates duplicate files with tilde

Thread needs solution

I created a full backup of my WinXP machine using ATI 2014 build 6673. I backed up to a brand-new WD Passport 2 TB drive. I got 43 split files, and used this backup to restore to a different folder on the same drive, so I could use with my newer Win7 machine.

The log file shows several files that were not restored, which is not the major problem. The main problem is that I now have duplicate files, like so:
AI3CPQEO~snoopy birthday.jpg~ 1/3/2015 8:38 AM 44 KB
snoopy birthday.jpg 1/3/2015 8:38 AM 44 KB
AH workshop 2014 sched.doc 6/3/2014 12:07 AM 26 KB
M00G5LQ7~AH workshop 2014 sched.doc~ 6/3/2014 12:07 AM 26 KB
U7263VA3~Tuning hints1.rtf~ 7/17/2014 11:50 AM 2 KB
Tuning hints1.rtf 7/17/2014 11:50 AM 2 KB

It appears that every file that I restored to the external drive is duplicated. My backup of my 250 GB produced a restore with 593 GB on the drive. I thought I could just search for files with the tilde (~) sign and delete those files, but when I do this search I get all the original files, too. Right now, I would just like to delete the doc~, etc, files.

This issue appears to be very similar to 11345: Acronis True Home Image 2010 sometimes leaves behind files appened with a tild '~' and characters.

Explanation / Solution

I had a similar problem restoring al large backup with Acronis True Image Home 2015. during the backupprocess i checked the folder and found all files had a tilde and some random number. So I canceled the restore and deleted the files.

Now analizing this I found out: During the restore-process all files are shown with this tilde..... But as the restoreprocess finishes the tilde disapears (gets somehow removed).

Fazit: dont cancel or stop the restoreprocess. Maybe if restore fails ther could be a similar effect so the tilde remains.

Hope it helps!!!
