Restore to Dissimilar Hardware

Thread needs solution

I have just installed the new Plus Pack for TI2010 because of the feature to Restore to Dissimilar Hardware. However there is no documentation or instructions of any sort on how to do this. Even when I open TI there is no selection for this process. How is this achieved?

Hello Victor,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to give you a clear explanation.

When Plus Pack is installed every time you launch Acronis True Image Home 2010 you should see the following:

Now you can create full drive images and restore them to a computer with dissimilar hardware.

Before restoring an image of your operating system, please ensure the following:

See the following KB article for step-by-step instructions on how to restore the system using Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack to different hardware.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you.

Dmitry,

When I open TI2010 w/Plus Pack I do not get the new startup screen. When I go to Progams, Acronis, there is a separate shortcut for the Plus Pack. Is there something wrong with my installation?
I am using XP Pro SP3.

I don't get the new startup screen either (Win7U, 64-bit), but the Universal Restore option is there when recovering.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. I've installed the new universal restore option but my startup screen is just the same. I wasn't expecting it to change. I presume the only time you'll see a difference is when you go to do a system restore when it gives you the option to restore to different hardware.

Hello all,

Let me comment this situation.

We have one common issue when Plus Pack is not shown neither in main startup screen, nor under About section. This happens if you installed Acronis True Image Home 2010 as upgrade from the previous one. We will fix it in one of next releases. The one way to check Universal Restore option in this case is to perform the following actions (after you have created a CD with this option installed, you can do so from Create Bootable media option in the product).

  1. On the Acronis True Image Home 2010 home screen, select Recover - My Disks:

  2. Select the backup of your system partition that you would like to restore (in *.tib or *.vhd format):

  3. Select Recover whole disks and partitions and Use Acronis Universal Restore:

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Thank you.

Hello. I installed the 2010 Plus Pack then tried to use the restore to dissimilar hardware feature. I did a full disk backup on one workstation (XP SP3) to an external USB drive, created a drivers folder on that USB drive with the drivers supplied by Lenovo for the ThinkCentre A62 that I was restoring to, created a bootable Acronis CD, boot the CD on the Lenovo A62 desktop, selected Recovery and selected Universal Restore, selected Path to Drivers, then did the Restore. At the end of the restore I got an error message saying that PCI device Driver for \\VEN_1002&DEV_4390&SUBSYS_43901002&REV_00 Cannot be found. The dialog box gave me the choices to Ignore, Ignore All, Cancel. I selected Ignore and then got the Restore Successful dialog box. I exited True Image and booted the Lenovo A62. It successfully booted to XP then tried to find new hardware for missing devices: Ethernet, Video, PCI, SMBUS, Unknown. I then manually installed all the drivers from the same folder on the USB drive and that worked fine. At the end everything worked except for the automatic driver patching by True Image. Any ideas on what might be the problem?

The drivers were in INF form. I even took the installed drivers on the Lenovo A62 and put them in the drivers folder (.sys files) and tried that but got the same result. It looks like the PCI error message causes the automatic driver patching to abort. Any suggestions or workarounds? I would like to see this work in the way you have designed.

Thanks for the information, i had the same problem now am able to rectify the problem. I shall post this in my blog which may be useful to others
Thanks and regards

Please have a look at this thread where a ''workaround'' has been proposed by Babac, as far as driver finding and patching is concerned.
We both ran a few tests successfully with Double Driver .
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/9437

How to use it:-Scan your target computer with Double Driver/click select and select all/click backup and create a dedicated folder on your HD/copy the folder on a USB device which will later be pointed to UR when asked for the drivers path.

I have purchased and installed True Home 2010 and the Plus Pack -- for the purpose of transferring the system from one PC (Intel based) to a new PC with dissimilar hardware (AMD based). However, when I launch the program I do not get the opening image shown above, specifically, the words "Plus Pack" are not part of the image. During installation I received feedback that each program, i.e., True Image Home 2010 and the Plus Pack, were each installed successfully. When I launch the program and check the serial number -- even though the words "Plus Pack" do not appear on the image, the serial number reported is the serial number associated with the Plus Pack. Given the discrepancy between the description above and what appears when I launch the program, I am not certain whether the program has been actually installed successfully, and whether or not I can proceed with successful backing up the C: drfive on the old machine and restoring it to a completely new motherboard and new hard drive. Please help me understand what's going on.

Hello,

Jim, let me assist you.

Most likely it's just a GUI issue, so I may suggest you to check if Plus Pack is installed correctly the following way:

  • Please create a bootable CD with Acronis Bootable Media Builder as described in the Chapter 15 of Acronis True Image Home 2010 User's Guide;
  • Boot off using the created CD and check if 'Plus Pack' shows in Help screen.

As a temporary workaround, you can always download a bootable media (in ISO format) from your account the following way:

  1. Log in to your account;
  2. Once logged in, click My Products & Downloads:

  3. Scroll down to the Acronis Plus Pack product and click Bootable Media:

  4. Click Download:

  5. Acronis Bootable Media will be downloaded as an ISO file. See Burning an ISO Image.

Please reply to this thread if you have any questions.

Thank you.
