Restore failed now archive files have vanished- help

Hi. Recently had problems with Windows startup failing at login screen. Used Boot disk i'd created previously to boot into Acronis recovery, identified appropriate backup file on slave drive (Non-stop Back-up), selected it- restore commenced then froze at 1 sec remaining- left it like this for ages- no joy. Rebooted using original drive- same problem- at login screen, entered password...error message "could not load user profile". So, tried using Acronis Boot disk again. For some reason the previous archive files I'd used to attempt the first restore were nowhere to be found? Any idea what could have gone wrong. Ive since been unable to locate any .TIB files on the Back-up drive, even tried Winundelete etc. Thanks for your help.
