Restore files from old TIBS
Hello,
Currently I have a problem with restoring my files, from my old install (27-10-10) to the new install (28-10-10). Here are the specs:
Old:
Windows Vista x64 Netherlands
Acronis True Image 2009 Home
New:
Windows 7 x64 English
Acronis True Image 2009 Home + Acronis True Image 2011 Latest build
The backup:
An incremental backup system. Mainfile is 106GB + 249 incremental backup files total of 60GB.
I installed the new operating system. And want to restore now my files out of these backup archives. But here's the problem, none of the above Acronis product can open the files.
Installed Acronis True Image 2009 Home
-Start Acronis
-Navigate to Backup and Restore
-Manage and Restore
-Browse for Backup
Tried it in the latest build of TrueImage 2011, same problem.
When selecting the main backup, the last, or one of the others in the middle. The program tries to load it. Trueimage.exe is filling with memory to 2GB+ and then crashes
Tried it on a 32bit system and also filling with memory tot 1.5GB and then crashes. Error screenshots are added.
I've tried opening the archives via Windows Explorer. But the same problem occurs, dllhost.exe/explorer.exe filling with memory, and then just shutsdown (no error).
I really need the files in these archives. And I assume this is the right way I was using it.
Thanks in advance.

New update:
I installed Windows Vista, Acronis True Image Home 2009. And trying the restore. Same problem, loading, if it hits the 2GB memory mark, crash.
I also tried the bootable rescue media CD. Opening takes a while, HDD leds keep blinking. HDD led blinking stops, and the PC reboots.
No luck yet.
Im getting very desperate and very nervous right now. Im willing to pay a very large reward, if somebody comes with a solution, the information in the archives is inreplaceble, and very valuable. I can't work without the files in there.
Not very hapy with this so called "Backup" solution.

Have you tried "splitting" the set or separating the Full?
To separate the Full, rename it to something else so it's no longer linked. Or move it to another folder on the drive (cut/paste).
To split the set, move some of the Incrementals to another location (cut/paste). You might try moving the last 100 and then see if you can open any of the remaining files.
249 Incrementals is a huge amount. Way too many, in my opinion.

Yes I agree with you, now that I think of it. I presume a monthly incremental backup is the max? And then start over again with a full. So 1-10-10 Full till 31-10-10. And then 01-11-10 again Full backup.
But what you said seems to be doing the trick. I moved only the last incremental backup. Seems that one is corrupted or something. The memory leak is still there. So Trueimage.exe goes to 2GB+ memory and then closes. But now I get further, and can select the files to restore.
But a second executable the TrueImageHomeService.exe keeps running. This one is restoring the backup now. The GUI also crashes. But in the background the backup still continues because I see new files comming in. Looking good so-far. Fingers Crossed!

Try downloading an older version and generating a boot CD and then restoring?
