Restore full backup from external hard drive using bootable rescue media

Thread needs solution

When I use bootable rescue disc in a USB drive and have the backup image file on an external USB hard drive, here is what happens;

Acronis starts and the external hard drive is available but assigned as the C:/ drive

My concern is that if I chose to restore system image it will put the original C:/ files onto the external hard drive rather than the internal hard drive that used to be called C:/ with a partition called E:/

Mark, when you boot from removable media (CD or USB) then drive letters you see in Windows can often change as this will depend on how partitions are created, what OS the removable media is using etc.

The safest way around this is to ensure that your drive / partition labels reflect the use they have, i.e. C: label = Windows, D: label = Data etc.

When you do a restore operation with Acronis, you will be asked to select both the source backup image, and the target / destination drive / partition where that image should be restored to.  Have obvious labels makes those decisions a whole lot easier to make.
