Restore from Incremental Backup -- Will this work? ATI Home 2012
Acronis True Image Home 2012; Windows 7 x64
My computer works but will not download windows updates, a major problem I didn't pay attention to until recently.
Disc incremental backups are manual when major changes occur which is not often (such as new software). Looking back these should have been done more often.
I need to restore data from an old incremental backup. I will do so using the bootable CD created when first backup created. This CD successfully recovered one file as a test.
Now each backup date shows a green check mark--meaning good; however, a number also show a red x and/or caution sign because I terminated the backup early (usually because I forgot to turn on the external source drive). Each backup was validated upon completion.
I understand I need to re-validate during the restore process.
Here are my questions:
1) will the errors (red x and caution sign) cause restore problems? According to history, log that days backup finally completed successfully and got the green check mark.
2) Because the backup date I'm using was a long time ago is it possible to restore single program file without screwing up that individual program? (Mozilla Firefox, for example.) The file restore would be from recent dates, like today. Incremental backup will be performed first.
3) Is it possible to update documents, photos, music, desktop, and user files by restoring "file" backups? Or would this create duplicate files? (one file restored from incremental backup; duplicate restored from file backup if it exists.) Unlike software, it's difficult to discern which documents were added/changed after a certain date so I'm hoping it's possible to do that in a lump file restore.
4) Most important: I'm restoring to the last good date when windows update was working reasoning it will work again AFTER restore is completed. Does anyone see any problems with this assessment?
5) I've done a lot of searching and can't seem to find how a file backup restore is accomplished. Please help, thanks.
6) Once I finish this restore and all is working again (think positive) I'm considering upgrading to Acronis True Image Home 2014. What are the advantages of upgrading?

Will attach Acronis backup log later, cannot find it right now.
Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide.
