Restore issue with Windows 7 - build 7600 not genuine

Thread needs solution

My laptop recently crashed. So, I cleaned the hard drive and loaded an image (about 3 weeks old) back onto the drive. Everything starts up fine: my Windows login appears, I am able to login, Windows 7 begins to build my desktop preferences, and then my screen locks. In the corner is the message "Build 7600. This copy of Windows is not genuine." The only option I have at this point is to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and enter Task Manager.

I realize this is more likely a Windows 7 issue than an Acronis image, but have any of you experienced anything like this?

I had this happen. See this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223188/EN-US. This should correct your problem.

thomasjk, are you sure that is the link you were thinking of?

Craig,

What brand laptop are you using?

I can think of two things that might cause the error message, one is that the SSID settings no longer match an OEM hard coded BIOS setting, which matches a special 'certificate' hidden in the boot sector, which allows the OEM version of W7 to boot, or three special text files are missing that W7 uses to authenticate it is a genuine copy (found these text files by accident and deleted them - that's how I know, it wasn't a good idea).

Was the original image a complete disk or just a partion one?

What version and build of TI did you use?

Colin, yes that is part of the problem. I was initially dual booting XP and WIN 7. When I deleted the XP partition and expanded the WIN 7 partition I received the "not genuine" message on reboot. I used this link http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/genuinewindows7/thread/d76c8e5e-4… and the one I posted above to solve the problem.
