Restore from non-stop backup only restores folders
Hi. I would appreciate any help.
I made a non-stop backup yesterday onto an e-SATA drive. At the time I was able to see and access files in that Time Stamp Folder. Since formatting my Win Vista 64-bit computer and loading Windows 7, I can not see the individualfiles any longer. If I try to restore a non-stop backup it gives me about 9 different events to choose from
yesterday. For many of them, the restore process starts and ends rather suddenly saying it was successful. However there are only folder restored.
If I pick the first backup of the day, it calculates for a several minutes. After 'less than a minute' appears
it shows something crazy like 44000 days to complete, eventually finishing several minutes later reportedly successfully. However, same result only folders. Ahh!
Please help. I need to recover valuable pictures and videos as well as documents.
My Hard disk shows about 320gb in use so something is there. When I do the restore I can see the file names and can individually choose them too. They just don't get restored.
I'm using Acronis True Image Home 2011 14.0.6597. I've tried the 2012 version as well with similar results although the 2012 version instead of completing immediately with some of the restoration reported failures.
I've tried using USB instead of e-SATA. I've also tried restoring to another computer with similar results.
Can a data recovery service salvage my files? What else can I do? I can't believe that the Non-Stop Backup did not work.

Thank you. I went through a lengthy chat session yesterday as I reproduced the recovery problem. I sent a report, log and a screen cap. The rep said that I would get an email, which I did. I'm not sure if this is form letter stuff but I copied and pasted some of the content of that email below. If this has happened before, have they resolved it in those cases? I found one post regarding this issue without any follow-up.
I'm taking my external drive to a repair shop after work for data recovery. They quoted me $60-$85 which sounds pretty cheap in comparison to other businesses and they say 99% of the time they can get the stuff off of. I don't know if I can wait much longer for Acronis and from the email they don't look too confident.
Cut/Paste from email:
"Due to the complex nature of the issue I am engaging the assistance of our expert team technicians to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Because this may involve multiple subject matter experts, the investigation may take several days to analyze and resolve. However we will reply back to you with questions or next steps within a few days if not sooner. Should it take longer than this we will periodically update you on the status.
It may be necessary that I transfer your case directly to an expert representative, but I will be monitoring this case to ensure it is resolved. "

It looks like you will get the right level of expertise to look into your issue (getting your data back) and/or for Acronis to address the technical product issue, if any.
FYI, another user I was tracking:

You might want to PM the user about his experience.

Thanks. Ironically, a couple of my backups from that day exhibited the behavior referenced in that thread. Quick falsely labeled successful recovery with only folders. Others from that day went through a pretty convincing transfer progress bar only then to go from 'within a minute' to 55000 days remaining and % complete rising above 100. I also had file "" listed in the log.

To update this thread, Acronis finally sent me a follow-up email yesterday. It was coincidentally on my last day of support. I was advised that the expert team said I should run the 'Clean-Up' Utility, re-install ATIH and attempt the recovery again.
This will definitely not work because I've already tried to install ATIH on another computer as did a data recovery tech. Fortunately this tech recovered most of my lost pics and videos off my laptop even though I had formatted the computer and did two subsequent OS installations of Windows 7. He was unable to get anything from the Acronis backup on the external hard drive.
I was disappointed that the expert team did not come up with any other solutions for me and that they waited so long to send this email.

Even if your support period has ended, Acronis will resolve the issue you filed. From my experience, getting to the second level of support really makes a difference. Be persistent and patient. But again, nobody can guarantee your issue will be solved ;-)

Was this ever resolved? I'm running into this issue myself. The 'Files And Folders' dialog when recovering from nonstop backup shows that there is 1.8GB of files available to restore, but when I restore all I get it the folders.

I have the same problem with a nonstop archive form 2011, both folder and files are shown but only folders are restored.
I was on the phone with tech support for 4 hours yesterday, there conclusion was this has never happened before. I hope that if there is a solution (or not) that Acronis provides some information.

Bill, Unfortunately at this point 2011 is not supported any longer. You should consider trying 2013.
