Restore says new location unspecified and hangs
I am new to Acronis, a friend recommended it, but I find it really lacking in user friendliness. It may be okay if you are a techie guru but not to us casual users. Well, I'm not really a novice, I have over 40 years of computer design and development.
I am using Acronis True Image version 2009.
anyway, my problem is that trying to upgrade rom VISTA 32-bit to Window7 32-bit on my laptop the windows7 failed stating I did not have enough free space on the hard drive. Requirements said I needed 15 GB, IO have 33GB of free space yet it still says it was not enough. Naturally, the windows 7 rollback sdid not work, no surprise there, that is where Acronis comes in.
Prior to starting the windows7 install I did a full iamge backup to a 1TB external USB drive. As I go through the restore wizard and selection the backup location, full restore. Then I get a screen stating no location specified. Problem is it won't let me do anything and eventually just hangs and I have to power down the machine to get out of the situation.
If I do this same procedure many times it will eventually let me specify the location. So far it has taken me 30 times to get it to work. Finally, on the 32st try it asked for the new location.
Surely, I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated
I downlaod the latest build and the standalone Iso image and created a dvd. Same results.

Do you know if the rescue CD could see all your drives prior to you needing to actually restore an image?
Now that you've got a working machine does the rescue CD of the latest build now work properly as far as selecting the backup location?

Thanks, for the response.
Yes, the rescue disk shows all the disk attached to the laptop. There is only the C: drive and a 1TB external drive that conatins the backup images. At this point, I have 3 backup images: 1- prior to any active, 2- my first effort to provide free space, and 3 - my last effort to provide free space.
Since my posting, I have notice that when I get to the point where it says no location specified, If I just let it set there for up to 15 minutes it will pop up and screen with the C: drive partition where I can select the location. But it does not always do that. Sometimes I have to try a few times to get it to work.

I have exactly the same problem. I'm using Acronis True Image Home 2009 with Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit).
Get as far as the "New Location" selection for the recovery partition and it hangs completely.
Did you ever find a proper solution to the problem?
Many thanks.

Peter,
2010 is the first official version supporting Windows 7.
Try to restore from the recovery CD, or try the 2011 version.
