Restore from usb external using recovery cd

Thread needs solution

I have images created in ATI 2015 that are on an external usb 3.0 drive enclosure.

If I choose to recover from within Windows 10, I get an error message about can't find a version (which is something that really needs a fix is you're doing scheduled full backups).

If I move the image to a local drive and boot from the recovery disk, the boot disk can't find the external which is the destination location for the image.

Is the only alternative to move the drive from the enclosure and install in internally to be able to work with it?

Thanks.

Some USB devices are, for various reasons, recognised by Windows as internal device rather than external. This happens with some USB sticks and SSD drives in USB case. Check windows drive assignments to see if this is so.

I can recall this propensity caused issus when beta testing ATI 2015.
