Restore will not restore Program Files properly

Thread needs solution

I have done two complete system back-ups because of issues with my laptop. I appers that, more often than not, My Program Files will not function after I restore them to the original folder. I get all sorts of messages that something is missing or is not in the proper place.
e.g. when I just tried to reinstall Ad-Aware I received the following:
"The procedure entry point ?_Xfunc@tr1@std@@YAXXZ could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCP90.dll"
What's that about? Can someone please advise?
I'm running Vista Home Premium.
Acronis True Image Home version 11, build 8101

Thanks

Hello Bill,

Let me shed some light on the issue.

The thing is that almost all software writes its values into the Windows Registry, so it is not enough just to restore the application folder or Program Files folder.

In order to have all your applications working you need to restore the whole system drive or partition. In this case all registry values and necessary files will be up to date and your software will work as it should.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.
