Restore Windows 8 Partition to new Windows 10 HDD

Thread needs solution

I have True Image 2014 and recently had my hard drive crash.  I did not realize my partition back up was prior to upgrading to Windows 10, so I have a Windows 8 back up that I want to restore to a new hard drive with Windows 10.  Is there a way to restore the files and settings from the Windows 8 partition?

Thanks in advance.

You can restore user files such as your documents, pictures etc from your Windows 8 backup archive image, but you cannot restore any program settings unless you know for certain exactly where these are stored and that there is no related Windows Registry entries for these.

See KB document: 19296: Acronis Products Cannot Be Used to Transfer Applications to Different System or Upgrade OS

You could restore the complete Windows 8 backup and then upgrade back to Windows 10 again if you need to keep all your installed applications and settings.  Once Windows 10 has been activated on your computer then it is activated for the life of that system based on the hardware signature (CPU, motherboard, key adapters).
