Restore to XP Mode partition
I have just upgraded from XP to Windows 7 ultimate. I have Acronis TrueImage 2010 and Plus pack.
I made a full backup using TI 2010 before installing Win7.
I now want to restore the XP image to an XP mode virtual PC and am not sure of the best way to go about it. I understand that with the Plus pack I can restore without upsetting the existing driver installation but there doesnt seem to be much in the way of explanation how to go about this.
Can someone give me any suggestions how to do it?
Peter

Is there no-one from Acronis on here who can answer this?

We must wait a little.

Hello Peter and Rein,
I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to give you a clear explanation.
The procedure of restoring the physical disk image to a virtual is the same as with restoring physical machines. To ensure booting up the system on the virtual machine use Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack, check the following KB article for step-by-step instructions. If the target virtual drive is a SCSI hard drive, provide appropriate drivers. For example, the VMware environment requires Buslogic or LSI logic drivers. Use drivers bundled with your virtualization software or download the latest driver's versions from the software manufacturer's website.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thank you.

I have used my TI 2010 boot cd to create a TIB file of my XP machine on an external USB drive. I've gotten the Windows 7 x64 XP Mode to successfully boot to an ISO of my True Image 2010 w Plus Pack CD, but then True Image is unable to find my usb drive. How can I get the XP Mode virtual boot CD to recognize my USB drive? I have shared the drive with the USB > External HDD both before and after booting to Acronis. Can I copy the data to the XP Mode C drive? Would eSATA work better? What other options do I have?

Hello Eric!
Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I entirely understand your concern and will be glad to assist you.
Most probably the issue you've faced occurred due to the lack of drivers or some glitch on the bootable media. I'm glad to inform you that this can be easily resolved. Please download the updated bootable media from your account, burn it onto the CD and boot the target machine with it.
This should resolve the issue faced. I would appreciate if you could kindly keep us posted regarding this question.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!

*Create another virtual disk, copy .tib to it, add virtual disk to the virtual machine.
*Share the usb disk on the host, access it over netwok from the VM. (probably ... "Shared networking" which allows the VMs to access the host ...)

I tried the bootable media mentioned above but it did not seem to do anything different than the iso I created. Just to be clear, this is Windows 7 64-bit XP Mode so burning a cd/dvd is not an option. This thread says to select an ISO as the d drive under the XP mode settings - which is what I did with the Acronis ISO recommended above. Unfortunately this setup still did not recognize either usb or esata drives attached to the system.
Here are my questions for you:
1) What else can I try to recognize my external drives under Windows 7 XP Mode?
2) How do I add a virtual disk to windows 7 xp mode?
Thanks again for all your help?
