Restoring 32bit to 64bit. Can not open or mount .tib
G'day all, I am trying to restore files and folders from a Win 7 32bit image to a new 64bit installation. I can not find how to "open" (mount) the .tib file in order to copy folders to new drive. Right clicking on .tib does not show a menu. Help please.
PS: I am trying to open/mount the .tib in "Browse for Backup" window. What makes matters worse is that the "Mount Tool" is the very first endless loop fault I have discovered that Windows 7 Task Manager can not close. Machine reboot required.

Presuming that ATI means Acronis True Image, I have a registered copy ATIH 2012 installed in Windows 7 on three machines, Pat and thanks for your reply. The file I am trying to access is a 1.2GB image file made with ATIH 2012. The only way I can get a menu from right clicking is by going into the Tools --> Mount. There are several options here including Open "with" Windows Explorer, but it does not display the contents.

Going from bad to worse I am afraid. I decided to Recover to another Windows 7 32bit machine using a Free Trial version of ATIH2012. Every time I try I get the message "Specify the location of the volume 1". I can not get past this point and can not open the .tib file. I am having exactly the same problems with the trial version as I am having with 3 machine registered installation.
I trusted Acronis but now I am very worried I have lost years of work. More help please.

When you recover, recover from the recover CD. Especially for a disk and partition backup recovery. You will see a list of backups there. If the message "specify the location of the volume 1" appears while using the CD, cancel this dialog box. Choose browse for your backups using the browse button (not the one in the dialog box), Once the backup appears in the UI, right click on it to recover.

When I get to this point the the machine hangs.
To recant: I purchased a new laptop computer with Win 7 32bit installed. I plugged the USB HDD which contains the original image into the laptop. I then used the Acronis recovery disk to boot the laptop.
I then selected "Acronis True Image" --> Recover --> Browse for backup --> D (USB drive) --> My Backups --> ***.tib (1.2GB file) --> OK --> Right clicked the file and selected "Recover" --> Warning "Specify Location of the Volume 1" --> Cancel --> "hour-glass for 30 minutes" --> machine hangs
What next please ...

Can you right click on the same file and validate it?
If not, can you try the same thing on another computer?

Now validating.
I ran for a short while and the same Warning message appeared. I then cancelled it an Acronis terminated the validation.

So it is still validating, right?

No, as soon as I cancelled the warning, as per your previous instructions, Acronis cancelled the validation. I should have said that as soon as the Warning appears the validation stops and "Operation has been cancelled" appears when I cancel the warning
OK, tried another machine. Same result.

Thanks for your help to date. I have now made this case 01571326 at Acronis Support as I think there may be a serious bug in ATIH2012.

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for posting and I appreciate your help Pat.
Arismac, I found your case in support and we will get working on it.
Could you please clarify, if I understood correctly, you are having difficulties with creating Acronis System report using Acronis True Image 2012 Home?
What about AcronisInfo report? Have you tried copying your backup file from the external USB drive and placing it on your internal hard drive?
Just in case, here are two Knowledge Base article that can be useful to you:

- Acronis True Image Cannot Mount Backup Archive
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

G'day Anton,
Yes, I have not been able to create a System Report or locate, what I understand is an automatically generated, AcronisInfo report. I have done detailed searches of the drive looking for same.
I have tried copying the backup .tib file from the USB drive to the machine hard drive. I then open Acronis press "Recover", select the .tib file, and the "Warning" screen that displays "Specify location of volume 1." This can only be cleared by rebooting the computer or with the Windows Task Manager. A warning screen then appears saying the "Acronis operation has failed".
Also the links you provided do not appear to refer to ATIH2012 just 2011 and earlier.
Thanks, Mac

Hello Mac,
Thank you for the update.
Your case is currently being handled by a Support Professional and the articles that I provided you with can be applied for Acronis True Image 2012 Home.
The Acronis system report can be generated from within the Acronis software where as the AcronisInfo report is a standalone utility which collects the same information.
We may need to investigate this issue through our Support team and I apologize for any inconvenience in advance.
Please let us know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

I just ran Report on my 3-drive 4-partition PC and it only took a few seconds. Have you run chkdsk on the PC in question?

It is the same on three different PC's. I have Acronis 2012 Home Pack.

After a long chat and an inspection of my computer and the .tib, it seems as though for some reason the Image was not valid and/or was probably corrupted. How or why remains a mystery. Clearly we are not going to find out either.

Moving on. I have managed to open the .tib that was declared faulty by Support, sort of ... Can any one please tell me what this means as the .tib file will not open until I solve what this means. Thanks

Try clicking on the last full backup for this task--probably
kate.tib

Thank you Grover. Here is the result I got this time. The Recovery starts then the "Select etc" appears. I select as you suggest and get this. The operation stops

When ATI shows you this message, it is looking for another backup TIB file. Volume 1 refers to the first backup in the chain: the full. If you can point to that backup file and ATI is happy to recognize it as the missing file, then your TIB file will open successfully.
Did you rename the TIB file manually by any chance? Did you delete a previous backup of the same task?
If your backup task is neither incremental nor differential, then the error message is nonsense and your backup archive is corrupted.

Arismac,
Are there any entries in your log file file as to why the operation failed?
I have also experienced issues mounting images with AV software running. I've had to disable it is some cases to mount. Any possibility this is contributing here?
Although if this was a file only back up like Pat stated earlier then this won't apply.

If I may answer both answers together here please and thank you for trying to assist me gentlemen.
The backup is the one and only that was ever carried out with Acronis on that machine. Kate simply tried to, believed she had, backed up files and folders on the C:/ drive.
I am sorry I don't know how to interrogate the log file. I shall refer to the Manual and get back to you on that one.
One more option is that I put the Kate.tib file on my web site and ask some kind person to open it, zip the contents and get the zip file back to me, if of course this is an option?
