Restoring all partitions to a smaller drive

Thread needs solution

Hi

I would like to downsize my system drive from 250G to 128G.  Can I do a drive close and if so will it still hold all the partitions of the old drive since the old drive has 3 partitions.  They are: One of 450 Megs (Recovery Partition), 100 Megs EFI System Partition and then 232.33 Gigs (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)

Thanks

Hi,

it is possible to go from a 250GB drive to a 128GB drive and there are some descriptions for this in Acronis knowledge base (use Google to find it).

However I think a simpler method is to make a backup of your 250GB system first, then perform a clean install of Windows on your new 128GB drive (no need to make it smooth, this is just to get the disk formatted and bootable in the correct way), after that simply recover your C: drive contents only from the backup to the new C: drive of your 128 GB installation.

I did this just recently and it worked fine.

Prerequisit of corse is that your amount of occupied space on the 250 GB drive is small enough to fit the 128 GB drive with enough margin.
