Restoring backup from SSD to an M.2 SSD (UEFI)

Thread needs solution

Bit of a long shot this.

I have a Windows 8.1 partition on a SSD. It is a UEFI boot. It works well. I make regular backups for security and just in case I install a program I don't like so I can restore back.

Recently I installed an M.2 SSD on my ASUS Maximus VII Ranger mobo and to take advantage of its speed even over the current SSD, I wanted to make this my boot (UEFI).

I thought it would just be a case of installing the new drive, and restoring the saved backup from my original SSD. It doesn't work.

My PC shows the boot logo, then the Windows 'spinning wheel' logo, the the screen says error and reboots.

I am sure that it is due to me using a UEFI boot rather then the older BIOS type boot. It is a GPT partition BTW.

The only reason I am trying to restore from a back up is to save me the hassle of installing all my programs.

Any suggestions?

FYI: Windows 8.1 64bit, TI2015 build 6525

What kind of error on screen do you see? Something like:
"The boot configuration data for your PC is missing or contains errors.
File :\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
Error code: 0xc000000f" possibly? or

"The boot configuration data store could not be found.
The requested system device cannot be found"

If so then your Boot Record has become corrupt or missing. Here is a link to correct that problem:

Thank for replying.

The message does not stay on the screen long enough for me to read what it says unfortunately.

I will, however, try your suggestion. Thanks
