Restoring by program from a partition image

Thread needs solution

I always back by entire partition but I occasionally just want to restore by file or program. It seems to restore by file or folder one must have backed up by file or folder. I can't find any reference to anyone doing this. Can it be done....if so how. There doesn't appear to be any way to navigate ATI2012 into doing this. Thanks kind friends.

Yes, you can use a partition backup to restore just selected files and folders. Either enter the restore process and make the appropriate choice, or mount the image and explore it.

You cannot restore install applications using a file-based restoration. Most Windows applications, with the exception of "portable" apps, are installed such that there are necessary registry entries and pointers in addition to various files. Even if you could locate all the relevant files for an application, it still would not work because the registry entries would be lacking.

To be able to restore a working installation of OS and applications, you would at least need a backup of the OS partition, but a full disk backup would be safer.
