restoring from total backup

Thread needs solution

i have backed up entire pc and want to restore pc to 'out-of-box' state. there is a copy of os on drive D. should i just wipe the hard disk and restore all from acronis, or can i wipe, then restore os from drive D, then restore programmes and data from acronis ?

I assume you have made a full disk image backup of the HDDs on your machine. IF so, you cannot restore programs unless you restore the entire disk image. Windows programs are integrated into windows (registry, program files, etc.) so you can't just copy them form one place to another.

IF you want the out of box condition, then restore using the program the PC vendor made to restore the PC to original condition. You will have to have the installer files and and licenses keys if needed so you can install your programs. If you had copies of the installer files on the PC when you made the Acronis true image (ATI) back up, you can copy those from the backup image to the newly restored hard disk and run them. First install ATI and then you can open the backup as if it were a read only HDD.
