Restoring Windows 8 leads to "missing device" error
I have been trying to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 but have had numerous problems. I have been going back to a full backup and incremental backup sequence (Acronis 2013) to restore Windows 8 whenever I got in trouble with the Windows 8.1 installation. Now, however, when I tried to start or restart I get to a screen that tells me that a device cannot be found (error 0xc000000f). The screen presents me with several options the only one of which does much for me is the option to press F9 to load “another operating system.” That starts Windows a from my restored image just fine and everything works normally — until the next time I reboot and then I have to use F9 to choose “another operating system” once again — very annoying! How do I get the system to reboot to Windows 8 again after a restore — without having to go through this annoying screen and press F9.
