Risks of using trial version?

Thread needs solution

I want to buy the boxed version from another supplier (not Acronis). I'm a little wary of ATI 2012 because of many negative reviews; however, Norton Ghost has even more negative reviews. So I'm wanting to give ATI a try.

If I install the trial version and then buy the boxed version from another supplier (not Acronis) will I be losing anything? Is it simply a matter of using the serial number from the purchased version? Are there other risks? Does trial -> purchase assume that you are buying from Acronis?

It's not a big deal for me to wait a week or so until I get the boxed version and I'd rather do that than to mess things up by doing the trial first. Just let me know.

Thanks.

There is no differences between the boxed and downloaded versions except you have something in your hand. Sometimes the boxed version is not the most current and has to be updated via downloads anyway. In reality, it is only the purchased serial number needed to activate the program--wherever purchased.

The trial can be downloaded and installed. If you buy the product (wherever), you can insert the supplied serial number into the installed trial version and it becomes a legal version and same as boxed version.

The boxed version does include a bootable media CD but the same CD can be created by the user from the installed downloaded version or from the download site--once the purchased product is registered. Once the CD is created, the downloaded version is no different than the boxed version. Both comes with a 30 day support. If you buy the product from Acronis, you have a 30 day refundable guarantee. If you buy from another vendor, any refundable warranty has to come from the seller--not from Acronis.

Caution #1: If you buy the boxed version, be careful to locate the serial number on the very small user guide inside the box. Many have reported the problems locating the serials so you may have to search all the supplied papers carefully.

Caution #2: If buying the boxed version, be sure it is version 2012. Free updates are only applicable to the same version as purchased and there has been no indications of any updates planned for versions prior to 2012.
