Running scheduled tasks as a service

Thread needs solution

I'm running True Image Home and don't see a way I can run my scheduled tasks without leaving the program open.

Can this be done as a TSR or service in Windows Vista or Windows 7?

Cheers everyone,

Eben

What makes you think this?

which version of TI are you using?

Unless you have disabled Scheduler and Scheduler2 in Services, TI (of any variety) should be able to start TI without loading the GUI part of the program.

TSR's you're showing your DOS days :)

Hello all,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

I agree with Colin, scheduled tasks should run without leaving the program open. What is the exact version and the build number of the program? What does the log files say?

Thank you.

Absolutely it can and you can do it more than one way. You can create Scheudle Tasks in ATI to run backups using the ATI scheduler. Or you can Use WINdows Task Scheduler (more full featured than TI scheduler) to run the tasks using the TrueImageHomeService.exe.

Hello Eben,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/ | Acronis Products]]

Please make sure that Acronis Scheduler2 Service (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services) Startup Type is set to Automatic. Otherwise, please set it to Automatic yourself and reboot your computer.

Also please note that at the moment, the following Acronis products can be installed on Windows 7:

• Acronis True Image Home 2010 Beta
• Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Family

However, the correct operation is not guaranteed since Windows 7 is still in the development stage. We are planning to release updates for our current products to fully support Microsoft Windows 7 as it becomes available.

Scheduled Tasks Don't Run

I'm told by folks I consider knowledgeable that Acronis is the best for backup, bar none.  Well, that is not MY experience!  I had a free version that came on external hard drives I bought for backup--but Acronis does not support that version.  So I bought 2009, which I was told they supported.  Sorry, neither a Knowledge Base or forum are support--support means, when I have a question, someone can answer it by email or chat!

I found the KB article.  I'm a newbie, relatively speaking.  Maybe a real "gearhead" could figure it out, but it's ridiculous to think the average Joe who just wants to back up their computer can!

I get derailed right off the bat--how do I know if I need the 32 bit or 64 bit version of the download?  I'm running Windows XP with SP3 on a Lenovo computer bought in 2007.

Any help will be appreciated.

Indeed how would you know if you need a 32 or 64 bit version of software. Ah, it's just come to me, it must be down to whether I'm running a 32 or 64 bit operating system! Yupp if your XP is a 32 bit system then I would think you'd download the matching software version, the 64 bit version wouldn't install anyway so that'd be another way of finding out.

You haven't mentioned which build of TI 2009 you are using (press ALT key and the Help\About menu will become available), what type of task you were attempting and the actual task schedule you chose or if you are imaging to an external or internal drive.

Have you checked to make sure the Acronis services are running?

There should be three entries in Windows Task Manager (CTRL+shift+ESC) - schedhlp, schedul2 and TrueImageMonitor.

In Services you should have - Scheduler2 and check that Microsoft RPC is set to automatic and running.

I have run TI 11, 2009 and 2010 on a Lenovo X61.  There have been occasions where TI has forgotten it's schedule, and then burst back into life 3 days later, whether that is the IBM utilities running in the background I don't know and this was using Vista. With W7 I have no IBM utilities running, and as yet haven't had a missed task problem.
