Runs out of disk space
I can't say I'm having a great time with this software. But here is my issue.
My primary HD is 500G running Win XP. I'm currently using ~270gb of space on this 500GB drive.
I set up a job to backup the primarly HD once a month to a network drive. This process takes about 16 hours to complete. (gigabit network). So I don't do this all the time only once a month.
I put in a 2nd HD into this machine another 500GB drive. I'm having Acronis use this drive to backup.
Whenver I uses this 2nd HD - I get the error message "This backup archive fiele will be created on the dynamic voluime abd I will not be able to restore from resuce media" - this is an incorret message but lets ignore that for a bit.
My issue is that the acronis backup takes up too much room and runs out of disk space after a few runs.
I presently running Incremental backups. I have automatically consolidate backups when number of backups exceeds 2.
Acronis is taking all the room on this spare 500GB drive. I don't change a lot of data aorud but after a few runs my 500GB drive is full and Acronis errors.
This normal for this program? Should I just do full backups everytime?
Any suggestion to getting rid of dynamic volume error?

Hi JP & Michael,
I have XP & I am using a 500 GB external hard drive for backup. Windows Live OneCare tunes up my P/C weekly and Acronis does a weekly differential backup (since 7/08) which is currently running for 45 minutes & is 378 GB large.
Problem: The last Windows Live OneCare tuneup reported, for the first time, that it could not defragment the 500 GB external hard drive because "Not enough free space to defragment this voume." Since everything seems to have been working fine for over a year, I believe that all I need do is free up disk space on the external hard drive by deleting the 378 GB Acronis file & telling Acronis to start the whole process all over again. Is that true & how should I do this?
Thanks,
Joe G

Support was useless! I found the temp files here. Don't know why search did not find the files. Anyhow I deleted the files and I have my disk space back again. JOY!
The files were located here. The last word is the name of the backup job--> full and incremental
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImage\full My second backup
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImage\incremental both were loaded with files from the full backup over the weekend and the incremental I tried to this AM.

I also want to backup a RAID image (several terabytes of data) to another machine over the network (YIKES! I will need to upgrade dual port NICS and gigabyte switch).
The trouble is the RAID is my largest drive and so will need to span volumes on target machine. I hope to fill one hot swap SATA and then put in another in it's place when full.
Is this doable and how can I do it?
