Samsung 840 Over-Provisioning

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have two Sasmung 500GB 840 EVO. I turned on the Over-Provisioning feature. When I try to restore my computer with the True Image recovery CD it tries to assign the Over-Provisioning partition a drive letter. Is there anyway to avoid this? I was thinking I could assign it a drive letter and than delete the partition in Windows. Also would it be better just not to have the Over-Provisioning on? Thank you.

If you can afford the over-provisioning in terms of space, keep it. It is definitely a good practice, in particular for SSD with a lot of IO operations. For the regular consumer who is looking to squeeze content onto the system disk, I would not do the overprovisioning. SSDs have a user non-addressable memory space to do some "over provisioning".

The restore operation should not change the layout of the disk. The wizard might suggest a destination for a given partition, and propose the unallocated space by default, but you should backup and restore the entire disk in one pass (Backup the entire PC, restore by selecting the disk level, not the individual partitions). Do all restore operations from the recovery CD. Don't start a restore operation from within windows for a bootable system disk.
