Scheduled backup failed
I recently had to use Acronis to recover from a complete computer crash. I lost access to everything on my computer. It would restart looking normal with all the Desktop items and all the applications either in the Start menu or in All Programs, but I could open nothing.
No application, no browser, not even the msconfig file. No matter what I tried to open I just got the message "application not found"
I was unable to get the computer to start in Safe Mode by any of the usual or back up methods. I talked to an on-line service that has helped me before but all they could recommend was to reinstall the operating system (XP) from scratch. Which would mean losing all my data and all my applications, etc.
Before doing that I wanted to try Acronis to see if it would indeed restore my entire hard drive partition from the disk image I made about a year ago. So I restarted from the bootable recovery CD I made when I first installed Acronis and followed the recovery steps. Thankfully it worked!!! I am very happy with that.
But afterward, I decided it would be a good idea to copy a new disk image of the present state to my external hard drive using Acronis and also start a new series of weekly incremental backups.
That seemed to go well. The full disk image was created immediately and when I checked my external backup drive everything was there including a nice clean operating system.
I scheduled the first incremental backup for 2 am this morning, but it failed. I had a message on the screen that said simply "Operation failed, unable to find file." No indication of what file. Something that should have been backed up? Or the new backup archive I had created on the external drive? (Before doing this I had deleted the original year old full disk image and all but the last incremental backups to make room on the external drive. The only thing there was the newly created full disk image and the archive icon for the new incremental backups.
When I closed that error message and opened Acronis, I checked the scheduling for the backup and there it was, just as I had intended but it was colored red for failed. There was a box that asked if I wanted to perform that backup now. I said yes and it backed up all of my modified data files as the scheduled backup should have done. They are now in the new archive for weekly updates.
But the log for that backup has the following entry that disturbing: a yellow triangle that says "Warning Failed to Consolidate Backup File"
When I set up the weekly backup I remember checking a box that said consolidate backups after 14 backup operations or when backups exceed 450 MB. so I wasn't expecting consolidaton.
AM I OK? CAN I EXPECT THE NEXT SCHEDULED BACK UP TO RUN ON ITS OWN?
Help would be most appreciated.
