Scheduler for ATI 2010 not working
I am using Windows XP Home and have several user accounts but just one of these with Administrator privileges. Nearly all of the time I use the PC with an ordinary user account (as a matter of good practice vis a vis security issues) and only use the administrator account for installing and uninstalling new software (sometimes by means of the Runas Right Mouse Button option when logged on as another user).
As it was necessary to have administrator privileges to install Acronis, I installed it under my Administrator account. When I try to run it under my normal user account it will not run, saying that it requires Administrator privileges. For this reason I have to create scheduled tasks under the Administrator. But I want to be able to backup my system using the scheduler when logged on as a non-Administrator. I DO NOT want to have to log off and log on as Administrator every time I want the scheduler to run.
Is there a way around this or does ATI require that all scheduled jobs are setup and run under a user with Administrator privileges?
Why is the issue of user/administrator privileges when using the scheduler not mentioned in any of the manuals?

Hello all,
Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
hopeful,
The Windows user account you use to log in to your system should have administrator rights to run Acronis True Image tasks.
If you want to run the scheduled task under a user account with no administrator rights, you should make the account a member of the Backup Operators group:
- Log in under an account with administrator rights;
- Click Start -> Run and type lusrmgr.msc;
- On the Local Users and Groups window click Users;
- Right-click the user you want to add to Backup Operators and choose Properties;
- On the User Properties window click Add;
- On the Select Groups window type in Backup Operators and click OK.
This will make the user account a member of Backup Operators and will allow you to do scheduled tasks under it.
Scott,
Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately it does not help. If I set the Windows scheduler to run Acronis under my administrator account with the administrator password then if I am logged on as a different user at the scheduled time Acronis DOES NOT run. If I use the Windows scheduler to run Acronis under a non-Administrator account then if I am logged on that account Acronis starts up but will not run because it requires Administartor privileges to run. Moreover having set up the schedule I cannot even run Acronis manually under my normal account using RunAs - nothing happens!

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately it does not help. As I said I am using Windows XP Home and the lusrmgr.msc command does not work - it is not possible to create user groups in XP Home. I have already stated this in feedback that I sent on Forum entry 1739 about aministrator credentials.
So I am still unable to use Acronis to perform scheduled backups from an account without administrator privileges. This is a disappointment. I DO NOT want to have to log off and log on as Administrator every time I want the scheduler to run. I am losing patience with Acronis. I bought it in October and have yet to get it to work correctly. Even when I ran it as a scheduled task and remained logged on as administrator the incremental backups that it produced were about the same size as the full backups, but that is another issue that the support team were unable to resolve. I am a bit disappointed.

This might sound desparate but was ATI installed for all users?

I am afraid that I cannot remember. Is there a way of finding out? There is an Acronis folder under the Application Data folder for both the Administrator, All users and my main user account. But not for other user accounts. Does this indicate anything?

You're really testing my memory here but one of ht Acronis folks doesn't jump in to say otherwis I'd say it worth a try to reinstall for all users, and see if that make s the diff for you. You ahve a manual backup of th disk, jsut in case anyway, right? ;)

Many thanks for your help. I reinstalled the program for all users and am very pleased to say that I am now able to set up scheduled jobs under the administrator account that run when I am logged on using an ordinary user account. You identified the problem that the Acronis support had been anable to. Thanks again.
