'scheduler service stopped' pop-up

Thread needs solution

TI2014 / Windows 8.1 - a pop-up (just above the notification area) keeps appearing after booting and at random other times that tells me 'scheduler service stopped'.

Why is this happening? Is there something that needs tweaking? Even though this pop-up appears, TI2015 clone service is working fine.

Go into Window Services and check the Acronis Scheduler Services.

The startup type should be automatic,
and then under the recovery tab, make sure
the first, second and subsequent failure windows are all three set to
"restart the service"

Thanks for the help. It was 'stopped' in the services list.

I use TI to regularly clone my drive (yes, I know I can image), and TI has been working perfectly while the scheduler service was stopped. I don't schedule any operations with TI.

Now I'm wondering if I really need this to be running. Even with plenty of RAM and disk space, I tend to follow the principle that less is more.

If you don't user the scheduler and tracking, then it is not needed.

If less is more, why even have TI installed when the TI Recovery CD will perform all the necessary clones or backups or restores.

Wow! That I did not know. So if I use the TI Recovery CD, I can clone directly from that without having TI installed?   (I assume that I'd have to boot from the DC to do that.)

Yes, booting into the TI Recovery CD Acronis menu, you can perform the same clones, backups or restores without Windows involved.
Try it. If satisfactory to you, you can do the uninstall later. The one thing you loose is the ability to double click in Windows explorer on a tib file and it automatically open a tib backup file.

If you boot from the CD, be sure and be present so you can immediately respond to the menu prompts, otherwise you might miss a prompt and end up back inside Windows having missed the Acronis CD menu.

Thanks, GroverH. I'll try that this weekend and let you know how it went.

Just an FYI if you do not know this link exists.

Have you used Acronis to clone a GPT style disk? If yes, did it change partition arrangement from original?

Thanks again, GroverH.

I used the Recovery Media disk to set up a clone, didn't actually do the clone, but there's no doubt that this is a way to continue making clones without having TI installed. Could that recovery disk be used to backup or clone in a different machine, or is it specific to the computer it's made on?

I followed the steps to see if my disk was GPT. Diskpart showed that the main partition (Win8.1+data) is GPT. But I couldn't see, based on the last clone I made (TI2015), whether there was a change in any partitions, hidden or not. It looked like a true clone and when I tested the clone by using it for a day, I could see no functional difference.

Although I gave up on Macrium Reflect, since it refused to make a clone on a smaller drive with all the partitions present, that program has an excellent interface which displays the partition information graphically and with more data then TI. Before uninstalling Macrium, I did use its interface to compare the source and clone made with TI, and could see no changes.

The normal Linux CD is generic--not specific to any machine.

You would need to make the comparison of diskpart results with both the clone and the very original which came with the machine.

I believe Macrium offers a metho of creating a smaller disk but you would need to do more research. One option might be to shrink the larger partitions to the desired size before cloning.
