Screen freezes upon restore
I attempted to perform a restore to an unformatted disk but couldnt see how ATIH would format the disk as it was not recognising any partitions (obviously). Maybe ATIH does not have this functionality but when my English ("EN") version of ATIH gave me Help files in French all I could do was shout sacre bleau!
So, used another product to format the disk & managed to get to the point where ATIH asked for the recovery disks. It didnt list the .tib file on my inbuilt DVD.
Attempted a re-boot of ATIH but on this occasion the cursor froze on the very first screen (Ive had this before with AT v10 where you were forced to choose the "full" option to circumvent problem). Tried several times, sometimes cursor moved a bit, other times not but every time the end result was the cursor froze on the very first screen.
Then plugged in an external DVD drive and ATIH restored successfully. Phew!
Has anyone else out there experienced the screen freezing and improved their French :-) ?

HI Colin, and thanks for your reply.
Sorry, should have clarified the situation; all events occurred when booting from the ATI recovery disk & I have a HP6715s.
To be honest the 2 problems I mentioned were just the tip of the ice-berg as there were a whole host of niggling problems & so I cant recall the minute details. However, with the formatting business ATI appeared to want me to select a partition to restore but listed no partitions as the disk was unformatted. Like you Im sure ATI will restore to such a device but when the help files are in French it presents a very unwelcome barrier in what is an "emergancy" situation. Anyone reading this will die laughing but its true and yes, my copy of ATI is legit.
The mouse freezing occurs upon the first GUI that ATI presents. Again like you I think its a driver problem with the HP. Also having to use an external CD drive rather than the inbuilt one is probably a driver issue. I was recovering the laptop at the repairers & it was lucky the guy suggested the external drive option as I was faced with the prospect of dumping the laptop as ATI wouldnt play ball

There are some parameters that can be tried as far as the mouse freezing is concerned and once the correct one is found, you can burn this into the rescue CD. Some wireless mice can be a problem and sometimes it is happens on the first menu screen but not once the program has loaded and more rarely vice versa.
I have the mouse not working on the first menu screen, but not once the program has loaded. Note when I talk about the menu this is becuase I have multiple Acronis products accessed by the same CD\USB stick.
I think Acronis is sorting out the French help file problem, I know they are aware of it.

Hi Colin, thanks for the info.
Yes, once ATI gets past the first screen its fine (from the mouse freezing point of view).
Do you think Norton Ghost would suffer the same problems? Im seriously thinking of dumping ATI for something else - basically Ive lost trust and the French help file problem simply indicates they do not do proper regression testing.

paul,
all imaging software is hardware dependent. Some solutions more than others. Since Ghost uses by default a WinPE disk, it might work better. To get a WinPE disc with Acronis, you have to buy the Plus Pack. At any rate, uninstall any backup solution you have before trying something else. In all cases, do a full disk backup, then try to restore some files from the recovery CD.
