Sector by Sector Backup

Thread needs solution

I am using ATIH 2010 and I noticed it gives me an option to back up sector by sector.
Is this a good thing to do and does it mean it will restore sector by sector?

Hello Graham H,

Thank you for your question, I will be glad to address it.

You're absolutely correct: sector-by-sector backup in the image of the entire drive, not only the used space but also empty sectors. And thus it does restore sector by sector.

This is a good thing to do in case you've got a corrupted or unknown file system. Please note that this mode increases processing time and usually results in a larger image file which may be equal to the size of the hard drive. If your system is fine, there's no need to run sector-by-sector mode

You can find more information about this functionality in the User Guide, chapter 9.3.1., p.68.
